How to Plunge A Drain

To plunge a sink drain, remove the stopper by pulling it straight out or by twisting counterclockwise. In some rare cases-when dealing with older sinks, you may have to first remove the pivot rod in order to take out the stopper. Your next step will be to stuff a wet rag into the sink overflow opening at the top of the sink on the front side. Place the plunger over the drain hole and fill the sink with water so that it is above the level of the plunger's head. To unclog, push the plunger up and down rapidly.
