To adjust a sink stopper, pull the lever to its upright and closed position on the top of the sink. With the drain now closed, reach under the sink and unscrew the retaining nut that holds the pivot rod in position. Pull the pivot rod out of the drain pipe to release the stopper. Then remove the stopper to be able to clean the debris inside. Use a small wire brush to clean. Inspect the gasket for wear and damage, replacing it if necessary. Then reinstall the stopper and test the drain by lifting and closing the lever on top of the sink. If the sink still does not drain properly, adjust the "clevis hanger" under the sink by loosening its screw and sliding it up or down on the stopper rod. Then tighten the clevis screw.
