If you’re in the process of renovating your bathroom, don’t forget to purchase a brand new shower receptor. When making such a selection, there are many important things that one must consider. The information below is provided to answer any questions you may have along the purchasing process.
Shape
Shape is typically a matter of personal preference. We strive to provide you with the largest selection of shower receptors in the industry. Shower receptors are available in the following shapes:
Neo-angle*
Rectangle
Round
Square
* If you wish to save space and install the receptor in a corner, the neo-angle base is the optimal choice. Out of all of the shower receptors, it takes up the least amount of floor space and can still help any bathroom design be exquisite.
Threshold (Show me examples!)
When choosing between shower receptors, you should consider where you want to install the base. For example, will you place it against two walls, three walls….etc?? This will help you determine the threshold you need. Threshold refers to the amount of different entry points you can select for your base. The higher the threshold, the more options you will have when selecting a shower door. I know this is confusing!! Perhaps the more extensive explanation of threshold below will help clear this up.
Single Threshold: You should choose a single threshold shower receptor if you are going to install the base against three walls. This is because you only need a receptor with one point of entry.
Double Threshold: You should choose a double threshold shower receptor if you are going to install the base against two walls. One threshold should be fitted with a decorative enclosure and the other will serve as the entrance to the shower.
Triple Threshold: You choose a triple threshold shower receptor if you are going to install the base against only one wall. Two thresholds should be fitted with decorative enclosures and the third will serve as the entrance to the shower.
Size
Regardless of the shape of the shower receptor you choose, most bases are measured in the same way. The two important measurements are length and width. Generally, any shower base with dimensions at least 34” (L) X 34” (W) will be comfortable to use. However, be sure to have a good idea of how much room you have in your bathroom. The walls must be large enough to support the base, and be certain that even with the receptor installed you will be able to walk around with ease. As a general rule, there should be at a minimum 60"(L) x 30" (W) of open space immediately in front of the receptor.
Color
Most shower receptors come in a variety of colors to match your bathroom décor. This being said, different manufacturers tend to supply different colors. Some of the finishes that receptors are available in are as follows:
Black
Neutrals
Shades of Blue
Shades of Green
Shades of Grey
Shades of Red
Whites
Drain Finish (Show me examples!)
The last thing you need to decide before ordering a shower base is what kind of drain you want. We recommend that you choose the drain that will best complement the color of the receptor and faucets in your bathroom. Several popular drain finishes are:
